There is something is very wrong in many Churches today.
I’m not talking about the buildings, I’m talking about the people.
The title Christian, is supposed to mean something significant.
It is supposed to identify those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ, and
follow his teachings.
When someone calls themselves a Christian, the expectation is that they act like
But here’s the problem.
While no one is perfect in and of themselves, too many people who declare that they are
Christians, are ignoring a key message Jesus taught.
When Jesus stood face to face with those who didn’t know God, He did not allow their
sins to determine their value.
He didn’t avoid speaking to prostitutes.
He didn’t curse the tax collecting thieves.
He didn’t delight in the pain of others bought on by sin.
When Jesus looked at people, their sins did not define them, instead he saw their sins
as imprisoning them.
Jesus was not only kind to sinners, he lovingly ran towards them with hope, to free them from
Jesus taught a message here, too many Christians are missing.
If you, Christian, are not kind to people, just because of their lifestyle, you missed
If you avoid people just because they’ve done wrong, you missed the message.
If you lack compassion towards those who hurt as a result of their sin, you missed the message.
The message too many Christians are missing is, be merciful.
None of us ever had it all together.
No of us is without sin.
We all have issues that we struggle with.
Just because someone sins differently then you have, that doesn’t diminish their need
of mercy, and our command to be merciful, as God was merciful towards us.
Remember, we never earned or deserved God’s love and compassion, but He freely gave it
That’s what Mercy is.
It’s withholding judgment, and instead offering a measure of grace.
This does not mean we should accept or overlook sin, it means, our love and compassion towards
the person, should not be determined by their past.
Psalm 103:8 says, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding
in steadfast love.”
In light of that truth, Jesus’ message to his followers is, “Be merciful, even as
your Father is merciful.”
Christian, don’t miss that message.
